Paint & Coatings
There are many paint systems and coatings each offering a variety of warranties and characteristics. Armed with a basic knowledge, you can make the proper decision for your metal roofing investment.
Also called an SMP, it’s an enhanced coating at a moderate price. This resin coating offers excellent film integrity with good fade and chalk characteristics. It’s designed specifically for residential, commercial and agricultural use and is very durable. Weather Tite offers panels coated with AkzoNobel’s Ceram-A-Star 1050(R), resulting in an extremely durable and weather-resistant finish. Ceram-A-Star 1050(R) comes with a 40-year warranty.
Polyester paints offer an economical choice with moderate performance. While film integrity is acceptable, fade and chalk resistance is relatively poor. Weather Tite offers a limited number of these paints. Contact us for more information.
Metal products that have been coated with a zinc film to retard rust and corrosion, galvanized panels offer superior protection due to the sacrificial properties of the zinc.
The “G” rating indicates the amount of zinc applied per square foot of material. The higher the rating, the more protection against rust and corrosion.
Galvalume is sheet steel coated with a zinc/aluminum alloy to retard rust and corrosion. This coating is highly recommended in most applications, except in caustic environments such as livestock confinement. Galvalume panels generally offer a 20-year warranty against rust perforation.
In most applications, Galvalume offers more protection than a traditional galvanized panel due to the combination of zinc and aluminum. According to the Metal Roofing Alliance, Galvalume has shown to be up to three times better at preventing sheet steel rust in long-term exposure testing.
